HYNE CUP

The 2023 Hyne Cup hosted by Walton RC, ran over two divisions (10:00, 11:30) on Sunday, February 5th – results are posted here

The Hyne Cup is a private match held around mid-February between the Eights of Weybridge Rowing Club (WEY) and Walton Rowing Club (WLT). The cup itself was donated by the family of John Hyne, a member of Weybridge Rowing Club and Sergeant of the RAF Volunteer Reserve who, at just 20 years of age, was killed in World War II, on June 23rd, 1945.

Nowadays, all the clubs on the Shepperton to Sunbury reach are invited to race over the course in crew boats: WEY, WLT, Weybridge Ladies Amateur Rowing Club (WEL), Weyfarers Rowing Club (WEF), Thames Valley Skiff Club (TVS), St George's College Boat Club (SGC), and Cranmore School.

It was originally a side-by-side race, but it is presently run as a 'head' race or time trial, rowed over 3000 metres downstream from Elmbridge Canoe Club to Miskins Wharf, just above Walton RC.
