2021 Small Boats heads round up – WEY are back!

Updated: Jan 25, 2022

Weybridge kicked off the Autumn Head season this year with our biggest and smoothest ever Weybridge Silver Sculls event on October 16th. We built on what we learned last year in Tier 2 and are grateful to Desborough Sailing Club, Thames Valley Skiff Club, Walton Rowing Club, and the lovely members of our Club pitching in to give their time freely to make the event a success, plus a decent dose of good weather. A good day was had by all.

We could not free up too many members to race, but congratulations to our junior winners: WJ17.2x Lydia and Niamh, joint WJ17.1x Eva and Lydia, J17.1x Nicholas, and J15.2x Dan & Archie. A few intrepid newer juniors and seniors braved racing for the first time ever, so huge congratulations to them too!

Three Masters crews (MasG.4-, MasD.4x- and WMasC.4x-) headed off to the Tideway for the Veteran Fours Head (V4H) with all three crews coming a respectable third in their events.

At Teddington Head, a good long 5k course, a lot of our newer senior and junior members stepped up to see what racing is like. A great showing from the novice women, many of whom even raced twice - so a good 20km on the water! The ladies looked good, learned a lot and looking forward to racing again. Well done also to a couple of newer junior crews again racing for the first time. A couple of wins again from the J15.2x Dan & Archie, and from WMasE.2x Rachel & Jayne.

At Hampton Small Boats Head, the more experienced junior crews went forth to face a strong field in bitter conditions. Congratulations to our J15.2x again, Dan & Archie for a medal-winning performance.

Rounding off the season, we had a good entry to Walton Small Boats Head on December 11th. Cold but otherwise lovely racing conditions. Congratulations to all who raced and thanks to Walton RC for putting on the event after a 4-year absence. Wins for J17 2x Cullen and Nick, WMasE.2x Rachel and Jayne, Mixed Mas D 2x Eva F and Ashley, WJ17 2- Niamh & Eva B, MasE.2- Geoff T & Paul, in the singles J17 Oscar and MasH Geoff D. Honourable mentions to Eva B WJ17.1x, J15.2x Dan & Archie, J17.2x Oscar & Ben, WJ17.2x Keziah & Luella for placing in the Top 3.
